color | accent chairs from charish.com

i've been designing a lot of bedrooms recently...

one of my clients is currently updating several rooms in their home (including some of the bedrooms).  and, we decided not to reuse all of the existing furnishings.  they decided to sell their unused furniture, and asked if i could recommend a consignment store.

instead, i suggested charish.com, a home furnishings consignment website that was founded in 2013chairish.com sold my client's furniture quickly, and issued the payment on time.  a most successful first time experience!

so, when charish.com asked me to create a style board, showing how to take a room from white to bright using an accent chair, i immediately said yes.

and, i immediately thought bedroom...

when beginning a project, i often suggest purchasing investment pieces, like a bed, or large upholstered pieces, like a sofa, in solid neutral colors, like white, grey, or beige.  neutral colors are a good investment for the future.  they age gracefully, and are more flexible if a client relocates, renovates, or redecorates.

then, i continue developing the design scheme by layering in color, pattern, and texture.

for a bedroom, i often suggest selecting the more expensive furnishings, like the bed and the floor coverings, first.

the bed is often the most difficult piece of furniture to find.  if space permits, a four poster bed, like the zanzibar bed by christian liaigre, can create an intimate 'room within a room'.  four poster beds are available at various price points, including less expensive beds from retailers like room & board or crate & barrel.

floor coverings are another important investment.
in this case, i might suggest an antique or modern moroccan rug...

i also encourage clients to invest in the best quality white bed linens that they can afford.

combining these investment pieces with existing furnishings, trade or retail purchases, and vintage or flea market finds helps to balance the budget for the project.

let's accent our white and black bedroom with a red leather arne jacobsen-style chair and ottoman from chairish.com.

arne jacobsen designed the egg chair for the lobby of the royal hotel in copenhagen, denmark in 1958.  so, it's a design classic.  it could be used as a lounge or reading chair in many locations, including a bedroom, living room, library, or office.  doesn't the bright red leather enhance the sculptural silhouette?

now, let's develop our design scheme by continuing to shop on chairish.com.
