jan 20-24 MAISON & OBJET | paris france  
MAISON & OBJET, a trade fair held twice a year at paris nord villepinte exhibition center, is an interior design trend barometer.  this january, MAISON & OBJET honors 2012 designers of the year fernando & humberto campana, hubert le gall, and tokujin yoshioka.  exhibitions include talents a la carte, presentations by six emerging designers, and inspirations CRAZY, three staged salons.  what better way to start the year than by discovering the emerging design trends?  or, by visiting paris?

jan 20-29 winter antiques show | new york NY
the winter antiques show, the best of the best' american antiques show held at the park avenue armory, features exceptional american, asian, english and european fine and decorative arts, dating from antiquity through the 1960's.  special events include the 'see and be seen' opening night party, and the 'meet the designers' reception on young collectors night.  during the expert eye lectures with book signings, you could also meet interior designers jeffrey billhuber, the author of the way home: reflections on american beauty, and david kleinberg, the author of traditional now: interiors by david kleinberg.  definitely worth a trip to new york in january, despite the cold weather!

feb 1-3 design san francisco | san francisco CA
highlights of design san francisco at the SFDC (san francisco design center) include presentations, panel discussions, seminars, product launches, and receptions.  the keynote presentations are all about building (or, rebuilding) your business.  be inspired by trina turk, who built a fashion and furnishings empire, san francisco interior designers michael booth and douglas durkin, who started their own design firms, or california interior designers|bloggers melanie coddington, grant k. gibson, and scot meacham wood, who use social media to drive their businesses.  gregory peters will also talk about self publishing his new book, the dark side of decorating.  and, charlotte moss will be signing her latest book, charlotte moss decorates: the art of creating elegant and inspired room.

mar 16-24 asia week | new york NY  
asia week, a collaboration between new york asian art specialists, auction houses, museums, and cultural institutions, includes exhibitions, auctions, and special events.  this year's event guide will be published on the asia week website in february 2012.

mar 16-25 the european fine arts fair (TEFAF) | maastricht netherlands  
TEFAF maastricht sets the standard.  anyone who is anyone in the fields of fine or decorative arts, including distinguished dealers, academics, critics, curators, or collectors, attends maastricht.  for TEFAF, the interior of the maastricht exhibition & congress centre is transformed into an elegant cityscape, with aisles named after the avenues of major european cities, landscaped medians, and pedestrian walkways lined with stands featuring fine and decorative arts from 260 dealers in 16 countries.  TEFAF sets rigerous vetting standards, so the quality, condition, and authenticity rivals the best museum collections in the world.  exhibits feature not only antiques, antiquities, paintings, manuscripts, and paper, but also modern, design, and a showcase of six recently established galleries.  and the haute joallerie? dazzling!


mar 21-22 west week | los angeles CA 
highlights of west week at the pdc (pacific design center) include keynote lectures, showroom programs, new product introductions, book signings, and special events.  la is always a 'scene', and west week is never an exception!

apr 17-22 salone internationale del mobile | milan italy 
the most directional bathroom, kitchen, lighting, office, and home furnishings debut at the salone internationale del mobile.  italian designers and manufacturers create outstanding products.  so, what could be more inspiring than celebrating the most innovative design in this most fashionable city?

may 9-12 legends 2012 | los angeles CA 
the LCDQ (la cienega design quarter), along with the nearby PDC (pacific design center), is a los angeles interior design shopping mecca.  legends 2012 | windows to the world celebrates the impact of travel on design with programs and events including keynote panel discussions, cocktail parties and receptions, coffee and tea parties, personal appearances, trunk shows, and exhibitions.  the displays in the windows of the antique, furniture, rug, accessories, and art galleries, shops and showrooms that line the courtyards, avenues, and boulevards of the LCDQ are not to be missed!  who can resist a little window shopping?

jun 7-17 olympia internatioal fine art & antiques fair | london united kingdom  
'summer olympia', held at the olympia exhibition centre, still suffers from an identity crisis, with ever changing names, organizers, fair designs, marketing strategies, and dating guidelines.  the latest is contemporary olympia, a showcase for contemporary and modern art, furniture, and design that debuted in 2011.  however, olympia is still considered a vip resource by many american interior designers, and a business barometer by the british antiques trade.

art | basel, held at messe basel, is the world's most prestigious modern and contemporary art show.  need i say more?

masterpiece | london, held on the south grounds of the royal hospital chelsea, revolutionized the format of international antiques fairs.  masterpiece features old or new, traditional or moder objects of distinctive design, aesthetic excellence, and superb quality.  does masterpiece feature 'the best of the best from around the world'?  or, does TEFAF 'set the standard'?

the san francisco fall antiques show, held at fort mason center, is the oldest continuously operating international antiques show on the west coast.  over 60 local, domestic, and international dealesrs offer an extraordinary range of fine and decorative arts in all styles from all periods.  and don't miss the preview party benefit gala.  one of the premier social events of the season!

nov 1-10 asian art in london | london united kingdom 
held throughout london, a center for asian art rivaled only by new york or hong kong, asian art in london features lectures, courses, conferences, exhibitions, auctions at bonham's, christie's, and sotheby's, receptions, and galas.  the receptions, hosted on consecutive evenings by asian art dealers in kensington church street, st. james's, and mayfair, are not to be missed!

Antiques Fair, Olympia

'winter olympia' is traditionally more classic than 'summer olympia' because it usually features more members of the british antiques dealer's association (BADA), who often exhibit at the BADA antiques & fine art fair in the spring or at masterpiece | london in the summer.  even so, many american interior designers (including moi) consider both 'winter olympia' and 'summer olympia' vip events.

art | basel | miami beach (ABMB), held at the miami beach convention center, is the most prestigious american modern and contemporary art show.  during the show, there are satellite exhibitions at every imaginable venue, including public and private art museums, such as the museum of contemporary art (MOCA), the rubell family collection, or the cisneros fontanais art foundation (CIFO), the miami design district, or the wynwood arts district.  no wonder it's a favorite winter meeting place for international collectors, artists, dealers, curators, and critics.  during ABMB, miami buzzes with exclusive parties and events.  so, rent a ferrari if you want to arrive instyle...  and, pack your party clothes...
